Firearms recovered in raid

On February 18, 2020, in the early morning hours, members of the Hazleton City Police Department along with the Luzerne County Drug Task Force (DA Office/West Hazleton/Butler Twp) raided a residence in the 600 block of Locust Street.

Upon searching the residence, the target being sought was not located inside of the residence.  Subsequent investigation, revealed the target of the investigation was within the immediate area.  Officer’s began to search the area and located a vehicle in the area and upon approaching the vehicle they detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle and the DEFENDANT, Anthony Rafael Colon, 20 years of age was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was asked to step out of the vehicle.

Upon exiting the vehicle the Officer’s observed a small black handgun in the passenger side door of the vehicle. The firearm had an obliterated serial number and was recovered safely without incident.

The Defendant COLON was charged with Firearms not to be carried w/o license, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Firearm w/ Manufacture Number Altered.

The Defendant COLON was arraigned by District Justice Zola and committed to LCCF after failing to post $35,000.00
