Water Main Break Forces Early Dismissal

Five blocks of the city had no water for hours Thursday afternoon,
including a school, leaving no choice but to dismiss class early. Water
was shooting out of the ground on the six-hundred block of Laurel Street
for quite sometime late Thursday morning after UGI workers, who were
installing a gas line, accidentally hit the water main causing it to
break. The unfortunate mistake forced the City’s Water Authority to turn
off the water on Laurel Street, from forth through ninth Streets, until
the problem was fixed. Not knowing just how long the water would be off,
The City Authority also notified Holy Family Academy and asked that the
school send the children home early. For parents who were unable to pick
up their children early Pavlick said faculty would remain in the
building until regular dismissal time and make sure each and every child
got home safely.
