New Computer System for Local Police

Hazleton PA News

Radio communication for law enforcement officials may soon be a thing of
the past. Just ask West Hazleton Police who are now enjoying some new
technology inside their cruisers. News 13 stopped by the West Hazleton
Police Station Tuesday to check out the new computer systems that were
recently installed inside two of their vehicles. The Computer-Aided
Dispatch System or “CAD” System makes for a much more efficient way for
police to be dispatched to their calls, allowing them to run everything
right from the computer. Chief Brian Buglio tells us, this “CAD” System
is run through the County, and all departments will soon be dispatched
to calls this way. Although this computer system may be high tech, it’s
not complicated to use. This system also allows people in a dispatch
center to easily view and understand the status of all units being
dispatched. CAD provides displays and tools so that the dispatcher has
an opportunity to handle calls-for-service as efficiently as possible.
West Hazleton Police plan on eventually installing the system in all of
their police cruisers. We’re told the West Hazleton Crime watch group
donated over 1,000 dollars to help get the computers installed.
