BANK ROBBERY SUSPECTS ARRESTED

On May 22, 2019, at approximately 1:00 PM, Hazleton Police Department, 1st Lieutenant Anthony White received information and a photograph from the Hanover Township Police of a vehicle, (White Ford Convertible) observed fleeing the scene of the M&T Bank on Sans Souci Parkway in Hanover Township earlier. The picture was immediately distributed by the Lieutenant to all Hazleton Police Patrol Units, Narcotics and Crimes Detectives on their tablets and cellular telephones.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Wagner of the Hazleton Narcotics Unit recognized the vehicle to be from a residence at 549 Peace Street in Hazleton. Hazleton Police Units responded to the location and located the vehicle, which at approximately, 1:39PM, was driven by a female in the area of 1st Street and Peace Street when a traffic stop was initiated on a White Ford convertible, as it was the alleged suspect vehicle in the bank robbery in Hanover Township earlier in the day.

Contact made with owner/operator, a female hispanic, (47) years old of Hazleton who was taken into custody and detained for further investigation at Hazleton Police Headquarters. Hazleton Units towed the vehicle as a result of the stop and investigation.

Subsequent information and investigation indicated the vehicle appeared to be the vehicle seen fleeing the area of the bank in Hanover Township.

Further investigation revealed that the (2) individuals wanted for in questioning for the bank robbery were inside the residence located at 549 Peace Street.

Hazleton Narcotics, Crime Detectives, Special Operations Group and Patrol Officers secured a perimeter around the residence, while Hazleton Police Detective Lieutenant William Gallagher and Detective Brett Green applied for a search warrant.

The subjects were identified as Aaron Fernandez 04/19/90 and Wayne Castetter 12/13/73. The search warrant was obtained and executed, during which both subjects were taken into custody without incident and transported to City Hall for further investigation by Hazleton Police, Hanover Township Police and FBI Scranton.

Hanover Township Police Detective’s, Hazleton Police Detective’s and Federal Agents from the FBI Scranton worked in conjunction and the above individuals are presently being charged with the Bank Robbery by Hanover Township Police who are being transported to Hanover Township for further processing.
